Ayushmann Khurrana, known across Bollywood for consistently picking projects that break from convention, has locked his next big theatrical outing. The actor is set to headline Mupapa, a film being billed by its makers as a “genre-bending” entertainer, with a confirmed worldwide theatrical release date of February 19, 2027.
The project carries added significance as the first joint theatrical venture between production powerhouse Yash Raj Films and creative outfit Posham Pa Pictures. It is being produced by YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani, marking his second outing as a producer following the Mohit Suri-directed romance Saiyaara, which performed strongly at the box office.
Details on the plot and the rest of the cast are being kept firmly under wraps for now, but the team behind Mupapa has promised audiences a distinctive visual experience once the film reaches cinemas. Steering the project is filmmaker Sameer Saxena, the acclaimed showrunner behind streaming hits like Kaala Paani, Tripling and Permanent Roommates, who brings his frequent collaborators Biswapati Sarkar, Saurabh Khanna and Amit Golani along for this transition to the big screen.
Mupapa is being positioned as an entertainer designed to hook audiences from the opening frame, continuing Khurrana’s reputation as an actor unafraid to take creative risks with his script choices. This is very much in keeping with the trajectory of his recent career, during which he has consistently gravitated toward films that push past familiar Bollywood templates.
Khurrana kicked off 2026 with the ensemble comedy Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, which released in May and saw him navigate a chaotic, high-energy plot alongside his co-stars. With that film now behind him, his attention has shifted to locking in his upcoming slate, of which Mupapa is easily the most intriguing given the pedigree of talent attached both in front of and behind the camera.
With a major studio banking on the project, an accomplished streaming-era director making his mark on a theatrical release, and Khurrana’s own track record of choosing distinctive material, Mupapa is already shaping up to be one of the more closely watched Hindi film releases scheduled for early 2027. Fans and trade observers alike will now be looking out for the first cast reveals and a teaser as the film moves further into production and promotion over the coming months.
