Cocktail 2 added an estimated Rs 1.55 crore net to its tally on day 12, a second Tuesday that saw a 15 percent rise over the previous day’s business. That takes the film’s second-week total so far to Rs 14.15 crore across five days, and pushes its overall lifetime collection in India to Rs 78.15 crore net.
Directed by Homi Adajania, the romantic comedy-drama starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna is expected to wrap its second week at around Rs 80 crore before making its final push toward the end of its theatrical run. Based on how the film has been trending, its total lifetime collection is projected to land somewhere between Rs 85 crore and Rs 90 crore net.
On paper, that would look like a reasonably healthy number, but the context matters. Much of the film’s steadier-than-expected hold has come with help from external factors in the marketplace rather than pure audience pull, which somewhat tempers how the final figure should be read.
That distinction becomes clearer when compared with the original Cocktail, released back in 2012, which collected close to Rs 74.50 crore net and was regarded as a Clean Hit at the time. While Cocktail 2 has technically already surpassed that number in raw terms, once inflation over the past decade-plus is factored in, the sequel’s real-terms performance falls noticeably short — meaning it is likely to be classified as a box office flop despite the seemingly comparable headline number.
A day-by-day look at the film’s run shows a strong opening frame, with Day 1 at Rs 12.75 crore, Day 2 climbing to Rs 15.50 crore, and Day 3 peaking at Rs 16.25 crore. Collections then dropped sharply over the following days: Rs 5.75 crore each on Day 4 and Day 5, Rs 4.50 crore on Day 6, and a further slide to Rs 3.50 crore and Rs 3.25 crore on Days 7 and 8. The film picked up slightly over the second weekend, with Rs 4 crore apiece on Day 9 and Day 10, before falling to Rs 1.35 crore on Day 11 and an estimated Rs 1.55 crore on Day 12 — bringing the running total to Rs 78.15 crore net.
With its theatrical journey now clearly in its final stretch, attention will shift to whether Cocktail 2 can hold on for a few more days before making way for newer releases.
